A New Focus

I created this blog in 2006. During the last ten years, I shared info about several uncharged suspects. I only ever named the suspect if they had prior history of violence toward women or children. These posts have generated hundreds of new leads for law enforcement. I still get tips to this day.

However, after the publication of my latest book, True Crime Addict, I've stepped away from actively pursuing cold cases, choosing to focus on fiction writing and making things safer for my family.

I've gone back through the old posts with fresh eyes. A lot of what I found was cringe-worthy. I was  an immature journalist when I set out to find Amy's killer, in 2005. I would have gone about it differently, today.

Anyway, I've taken down all posts (I think) that refer to uncharged suspects. The focus of this blog going forward should be to collect facts and articles and videos about the case, to make it a stepping-off point for anyone interested in the case. I don't suspect it will be updated unless the FBI or police come out with new info.

If you would like to explore the case further, you can review a collection of my interviews and notes at the Special Collections Archive at Kent State.

I have also written about the case in the books, Amy: My Search for Her Killer, The Serial Killer's Apprentice, and True Crime Addict.

Thank you for visiting this blog and contributing to this case over the years.

Stay safe.

Follow this link to Crime Watch Daily to see Andrea Isom's new story about the Amy Mihaljevic case.

They did a really nice job and spent lots of time interviewing people in Ohio when they came out here a couple months ago.

Nicely done!

Homemade Curtain May Be Key Evidence In Amy Mihaljevic Case

The press conference in Bay Village just wrapped up and boy was it a doozy. Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty was there, along with Chief of Police Mark Spaetzel and retired FBI agent Phil Torsney (who has been working on the case for some time).

There is new evidence in the Amy Mihaljevic murder investigation - a homemade curtain and a blanket found on the road where Amy's body was discovered in 1989. These items were found a ways down the road from her body and until now they were not sure that they were linked to the crime. But they recently tested dog hairs found on the fabric and determined that they matched hairs taken from the dog Amy owned at the time.

What does this mean? Well, lots.

First, it's very important to note that they are not saying the curtain and blanket came from the Mihaljevic residence. The dog hair traveled on Amy's body and deposited onto them because the curtain and blanket were likely used to wrap her body during travel.

The curtain is homemade, and was originally Avocado green. Someone stitched this together inside their home and hung on their tall, narrow window. Someone missed this curtain when it was gone - or at least noticed it was missing.

Other fibers and hairs were discovered on the curtain and blanket as well, meaning they may be able to link these items to the killer and his home in the future.

So, take a look. Remember back to 1989. Did you see this curtain hanging in someone's house? Did it go missing? Is this the sort of curtain someone you knew would have made?

BREAKING! Bay Village to Hold Press Conference Tomorrow Morning!

Oh my God, it feels good to update this blog.

Word just in that Bay Village Police, the FBI, and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office will hold a press conference tomorrow morning for an update and news on the Amy Mihaljevic cold case. It seems they will be asking for the public's help in a very specific way.

They sound excited for the first time in years, folks.

I will be there. I will update.

My New Book, True Crime Addict, Will Contain Some New Info On Amy's Case

My next book, True Crime Addict, comes out May 24 and you can preorder it today!

True Crime Addict is mostly about my search for Maura Murray, a young nursing student who went missing in the White Mountains, in 2004. But it also contains some new information about the Amy Mihaljevic case, including details on a specific suspect in her abduction who came to my attention while I investigated this other mystery.

Look for it in your local bookstore or order online!
