The Next Move

Both the Bay Village Police and FBI are now aware of this new witness that definitively ties suspect Dean Runkle to Amy Mihaljevic and the girls from North Olmsted who were also stalked in 1989.

The next step is for them to seek out the people who can verify Dora's story. If her niece also remembers the man from the Nature Center, then you've got a pretty solid bit of testimony. They should also be following up with the people Dora spoke to about this incident in 1989 (long before my book or media attention could have influenced her story). As well as the Lorain Morning Journal, which may still have the letter Dora sent a couple years ago, naming Runkle as the man she saw that day.

But whether anything comes of this new info is entirely up to police and prosecutors.

I'm not a betting person, but if I were, I'd bet that nothing will come of this. It strikes me as odd that there have been so many leads dropped, not followed, stolen/lost evidence, tight lipped, wrong way u turns... I really don't see this case being solved under the current leadership, the time has come and gone for a fresh set of eyes to look at this case and talk to everyone.

I reread a post on December 18, 2009. A former FBI agent who conversed often with other agents assigned to Amy's case commented that Runkle did submit a DNA sample. He said that he remembered the day he came in to do it. Did you ever verify this, and do you know the results, James?

Yes Wayne Matlock

That may tie in to something I suspected for a long time: Did Runkle ever have a drug habit ? Or some serious skeleton in the closet that he had to bribe someone ? Is short, my theory is the person that abducted Amy was not the person that killed her.

To Anonymous of July 11: I always thought that Runkle had a few skeletons in his closet, I mean, besides the actual one he claimed to have stabbed to death. That was my impression when I was his student at Nord. Even though I liked him, I always felt that there was a part of his life that he was hiding. Of course we all thought he was just gay or something.
