As I said in May, Frank Dienes is a master manipulator and was only pretending to be crazy in Judge Russo's courtroom, now that he's charged with the murder of Joe Kopp and being investigated by detectives working on Amy's case.
Channel 5's Paul Kiska was in the courtroom and Scene's Kyle Swenson reports on the coverage. Check this link for video.
Apparently, Dienes carried on intelligent conversations with his wife and played a decent game of chess when he thought he wasn't being monitored by counselors, but then played "crazy man" when being evaluated. Another word for this behavior is "compartmentalizing". That's a trait sociopaths can perfect over time. It's how you live with killing someone. (BTW, nice "crazy man" hair, there, Frank. It's the details that sell the story!)
Judge Russo saw through the ruse and bumped Dienes' bail to $1 million. For now, he's back in jail.
I wonder what's next for Dienes' lawyers. They've tried the crazy card. They've made me a witness to keep me out of the courtroom. At some point, they have to realize they've backed the wrong horse.

James, These cats that have been set on fire.......isn't that happening in Amy's neighborhood? Just thinking. Maybe sociopathic personality runs in familys.....
Mr. Renner,
I just found your blog today and have been completely addicted to it. I read your book about Amy when it first came out, as well as the Serial Killer's Apprentice, in fact I met you at a book signing in Parma. Anyway, I grew up in Cleveland and was only 8 when Amy was taken. I think for most people my age, this was the case that sort of stuck with all of us, and was in the back of our minds. The renewed interest in the case, since Joe's murder, is what brought me to your blog. It may sound terrible, but I almost hope that it was Dienes who did it, just so we can have closure. Thanks for all the hard work you are putting in on this to keep the case going and the memory alive.
I've said it before...
Asshole is not a mental illness.

So, can you give us an early hint as to which suspect you will be accusing next month?

Ah yes, the implication that James is dragging numerous "innocent" people through the mud again.
In general, names are withheld unless these men have committed other serious crimes.
"In general, names are withheld unless these men have committed other serious crimes."
Please remind me what other "serious crime" Runkle committed, particularly one that he has been officially charged with or convicted of. Please remember that an accusation does not prove that someone committed a "serious crime."
He sent love letters to an underage boy. And was caught by police and school admin alone in cars with a student.
In addition, the late Billy Strunak was a rapist and a widely-known creep; Robert Jones tried to solicit a girl from a prostitute; Kapela was into underage girls; Ken Stanton was a pedophile; etc.
The idea that Renner haphazardly moves from suspect to suspect without regard for their dignity or personal lives, one that repeatedly surfaces among his critics, is not grounded in reality.
