New Article on Amanda Berry/Gina DeJesus

16 year-old Amanda Berry disappeared from Cleveland's West Side on April 21, 2003. Gina DeJesus, 14, disappeared near the location where Amanda was last seen, almost a year later. Clevelanders have wondered ever since if the two unsolved cases are connected. I've just spent the last month researching their stories. The result is the cover article in this week's Free Times.

James, your article on Mandy and Gina was superb. Until now, I have supposed that the two girls were abducted by the same person, but now I am not so sure. I hope you will continue to monitor these cases as well as Amy's and keep us up to date. I find it depressing that the Cleveland area seems to have a long tradition of unsolved murders and disappearances involving young girls and women. There was a girl shot to death a few years ago in what may have been some kind of honor killing, and I don't believe it was ever resolved. Then there is the Shakira Johnson horror: I have a friend who was an alternate juror for the Daniel Hines trial and he told me some very disturbing things. The incident that I think about the most is the Kathy Parisi case: do you know if it has been solved? Ms. Parisi was abducted (in 1993 or there abouts)from a Brookpark Road shopping center a about half a mile down the road from where I work. I live a few blocks away from the North Avenue (Parma) man she was supposedly meeting. Is this case still open? Does anyone know what happened to this 22 year old woman? I have lived most of my life in this neighborhood and, as a single mom, raised my children here. Every day I see that shopping center and think that I would like to know what happened. I know you can't be expected to singlehandedly solve every disappearance, but I hope you will continue your efforts on behalf of Amy, Mandy, Gina, and all the others. I believe that your book, articles, and this blog are a great service to our community. Thank you!

Deirdre, to answer ur question about Cathy Parisi, no it was not solved. My name is Cecelia Parisi, I'm her daughter. To this day we still do not know what happened.

It is great news that Amanda Berry and Gina Dejesus were found today relatively safe. I would also hope after all these years that they would find out what happened to Cathy Parisi - she is a childhood friend of mine from when they lived in the Chicago area (my mom and Cathy's mom are good friends from high school) and I know her family misses her.
